We are currently looking for a Category Portfolio Manager for Voila who will handle a large national desk, including Impulse, Frozen, Dairy, Confectionery and Commercial Bakery. You will also manage the category plans for our customer fulfillment centres and lead a team of category managers, assistant category managers, and administrators.

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

Lead Category Managers, Assistant Category Managers, and Administrators

  • Coach, develop and empower the Category Managers, Assistant Category Managers, and Category Admins
  • Deliver against KPIs to measure success based on category targets

Manage Category Plans

  • Develop Category Plans that support the applicable banner’s strategy focused on generating sales and improved category performance relative to the market.
  • Communicate category plans to all applicable stakeholders including leadership, other functional areas and vendor partners.
  • Execute category plans by successfully delivering against the category pricing, promotion, assortment, and merchandising plans that support our strategies and financial requirements.
  • Identify new opportunities from whatever source available including field merchandising, operations, vendor partners, market visits, etc.
  • Manage for an optimal mix of margin within your respective categories.
  • Manage performance targets for categories.
  • Manage category plans for CFC1 (Vaughan), CFC2 (Pointe-Claire) and CFC3 (Calgary).

Manage Category Performance 

  • Track, know and communicate actual category performance versus budget, target and/or forecast
  • Oversee action plans to meet forecasted financials

Manage the Execution of Merchandising Categories

  • Build vendor relationships to enable effective negotiations .
  • Manage the category promotion-pricing strategies and ad planning process delivering optimal customer value and margin performance for categories.
  • Manage interactions with Quebec and Related Businesses (RB).
  • Build relationships with store operations/franchisees.
  • Build relationships with other functional areas (i.e., Merchandising Support Services, Operations, Finance, Replenishment, Marketing, etc.).

Commissary (as applicable)

  • Support the Director on leading and planning the weekly profitability of the Voilà retail business.
  • Own the relationship between the retail media and marketing team with Merchandising.
  • Actively research and identify innovation within the food service and retail industry and communicate key findings to Category Management and other functional areas as appropriate.
  • Define the Local strategy approach among the Voilà business.

What you have to offer:

  • 5+ years experience in category management
  • Experience in purchasing, merchandising, retail, e-commerce, or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and foster collaboration.
  • Strong skills in negotiating contracts and terms with suppliers.
  • Ability to make data-driven decisions to optimize category performance.
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset as the candidate will be expected to work with peers in other provinces in the development and implementation of tools and processes across Canada, as well as provide support to Sobeys employees across Canada.
