The Shield of Athena Family Services is a non-profit organization offering services to women and children victims of conjugal, family, and/or honor-based violence. The diverse clientele requires support around their experiences of violence, re-establishing a sense of safety, and often socio-cultural support around their new arrival to Canada –including language barriers, socio-cultural isolation, and developing an understanding of their rights in Canada. The organization works collaboratively as a team. Our network is composed of two external offices (Montreal and Laval), an emergency shelter – Athena’s House, and a multilingual community outreach department.

We are currently looking for two Social Workers: 1 for our Second Step resource and 1 for our external office in Montreal.

Responsibilities

Shelter

· Evaluate and assess requests made for shelter.

· Welcome and support women and their children victims of conjugal/family violence, as well as accompany them throughout their stay.

· Create an intervention plan; evaluate, intervene, refer and ensure services throughout the resident’s stay.

· Offer individual meetings, animate group sessions, as well as provide accompaniment in various domains.

· Participate in meetings with the multidisciplinary team.

External

· Evaluate and process requests for services.

· Offer psychosocial support to service users.

· Develop an intervention plan based on the needs identified with the women.

· Evaluate, intervene, refer and ensure follow-up throughout the length of determined services.

Candidate Profile

Education: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in social work or similar field; i.e. psychology.

Work experience: Basic experience in a community setting and knowledge of issues related to conjugal violence.

Skills: Good judgment, empathy, flexibility, autonomy, organization and ability to take initiative. Candidates that like to work in a team and take on new challenges.

Languages: Candidates must be bilingual (English and French). A third language would be an asset.
