About the Human Resources & Organizational Well-Being (H.R) Director Position
This position was designed to better support Head & Hands staff members, from the beginning of their contract and throughout their time at Head & Hands. This position has been re-designed to support our movement towards more meaningful collective care of our staff.
Following a restructuring of the administrative team, the H.R Director will be working alongside and in collaboration with the Executive Director.
This is an ideal position for a candidate with a passion for equitable labour practices, policy work, non-traditional hierarchy structures and conflict resolution. As this job has been re-designed, the candidate hired will be able to bring in their own creativity and skills to design and implement certain elements of the work, once they are settled in the organization. Candidates who value a balance of autonomy and teamwork should apply.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsibilities
Staffing, Employee On- and Off-Boarding
-In collaboration with the staff, facilitate hiring, recruitment, and workforce planning activities
-Orienting new employees in organizational history, policies, and Head & Hands structure
-Coordinate introductory “check-ins” for new employees
-Collaborate with new hires’ supervisor to ensure effective program specific on-boarding, and facilitate on-boarding administrative requirements such as contract writing and signing, payroll sign up, etc.
-Conduct exit interviews with leaving staff and prepare proper documentation
-Act as a resource and navigational support person for new employees
-Create/update, and as needed onboarding materials
Total Compensation and Employee Records
-Manage employee timesheets and employee files with Executive Director
-Manage vacation requests in peak periods (winter/summer) in collaboration with the Office Coordinator
-Manage health insurance, support employees in related inquiries and navigating benefits administration; evaluating health insurance provider and/or plan every two (2) years with the administrative team
Labour Relations
-Support supervision structure, ensuring that employees are receiving regular supervision, and evaluations, in collaboration with Executive Director
-Ensure leaves are taken accordinging to policy in collaboration with Executive Director, supporting staff-supervisors in preparing for the leave with task management, transition plans to ensure that leaves can be taken successfully and prevent burnout for other staff
-Acting as a liaison for resolving interpersonal work conflicts or receiving grievances, providing next steps and supporting formal feedback and conflict resolution processes as per policies
Organizational Development and Organizational Well-Being
-Performing timely and ongoing review of H&H labour practices to ensure the well-being of all staff and adherence to effective labour laws, holding us accountable to our values as an equitable employer
-Designing and implementing activities to promote engagement and employee bonding (including retreats, with the support of staff committees)
-Research best practices with respect to work health, safety, compensation, and employee retention
-Manage the professional development budget and ensure employees have equitable access to professional development opportunities, including external trainings, in collaboration with the Executive Director and Director of Finance
Requirements & Assets
Requirements:
-This position requires bilingual proficiency, excellent oral & written communication in English & French
-A commitment to harm reduction and anti-oppression
-Excellent time management skills, personal organization, and attention to detail
-Post-secondary education and/or experience in at least one of the following areas: human resources management, counseling,
-Strong experience or training in at least one of the following areas: trauma-informed care, active listening, transformative justice, conflict resolution, group facilitation,
-Experience working with people who have experienced complex and/or compounding marginalizations, including: colonization, racism, homophobia, transphobia, poverty, ableism, etc.
-Strong communication and facilitation skills
-Ability to work autonomously
-Experience working in a collaborative team setting
Assets:
-Experience in working with youth
-Connections to NDG and its communities
-Experience in working in a community organization and/or non-profit
-Experience working in a non-traditional hierarchy model / setting
-Experience in training of staff, interns and volunteers
-Knowledge or experience regarding labour laws and human resources best practices (payroll, contracts, employee and employer rights and responsibilities, etc.)
-Knowledge or experience around policy work
